    How To Use the Leverage Calculator

    1Build Your Position

    Choose long or short, then enter your fill price, coin amount and leverage. Live price is an optional starting point.

    2Match Your Margin Mode

    Use extra margin for isolated, or your single-position wallet balance for cross. Match the maintenance tier and formula to your exchange.

    3Check Your Stop

    Enter your stop. Read the warning and compare leverage rows to keep estimated liquidation beyond the stop. Allow room for costs and slippage.

    Worked Example

    The default long position holds 0.5 BTC at $65,000.00 with 20x leverage. Its position value is $32,500.00, requiring $1,625.00 initial margin. With isolated margin, no extra margin, no maintenance deduction and a 0.5% maintenance rate, the Exchange Formula estimates liquidation at $62,060.30, a 4.52% move below entry. A stop at $62,400.00 allows up to 22x whole leverage before estimated liquidation reaches the stop.

    The Formula

    Exchange Formula: maintenance margin is measured at the liquidation price.

    LP = (WB + cumB - Side x Position x EP) / (Position x MMR - Side x Position)

    Classic Formula: maintenance margin is measured at entry.

    im = (EP * Q) / L
    wb = mode === "cross" ? walletBalance : im + extraMargin
    mm = EP * Q * mmr - cum
    price = EP - s * (wb - mm) / Q

    EP is entry price. Position and Q are the coin quantity. L is leverage. Side and s are +1 for long and -1 for short. MMR and mmr are the decimal maintenance rate (0.5% is 0.005). WB and wb are the isolated position margin plus added margin, or the cross wallet balance. cumB and cum are the maintenance amount.

    Leverage and Liquidation Questions

    What Is a Liquidation Price?
    It's the estimated mark price where your position no longer has enough margin to stay open. The exchange may close it to cover losses. This crypto liquidation calculator estimates that level for one USDT-margined linear position.
    How Does Leverage Change It?
    For the same isolated position, higher leverage means less initial margin and a liquidation price closer to entry. Lower leverage adds more initial margin. In this single-position cross model, your wallet backs the position, so leverage changes initial margin but doesn't move liquidation.
    What Is the Difference Between Isolated and Cross Margin?
    Isolated margin uses the initial margin for this position plus any extra margin you add. Cross margin uses the wallet balance you enter. Cross mode here assumes this is your only open position. Other positions and orders can change your exchange's result.
    What Is Maintenance Margin and Why Do Exchanges Use Tiers?
    Maintenance margin is the margin needed to keep a position open. Exchanges raise the rate for bigger positions using tiers. Enter your exchange's rate and maintenance amount for the size you're checking. Binance calls the maintenance amount cumB; Bybit calls it mmDeduction.
    Why Does My Exchange Show a Slightly Different Number?
    Exchanges can use different formulas, mark prices, margin tiers, fees and funding. The Exchange Formula measures maintenance margin at liquidation; the Classic Formula measures it at entry. This tool doesn't apply trading fees or funding. Check the final number on your exchange.
    How Do I Pick Leverage for My Stop?
    Set your stop below entry for a long or above entry for a short. In isolated mode, Leverage Before Liquidation shows the largest whole leverage from 1x to 125x that puts estimated liquidation beyond that stop. It isn't a safety guarantee: allow room for fees, funding and slippage. In cross mode, adjust the wallet or position size because leverage won't move liquidation.
